Adjunctive Therapies

Electrotherapy

Electrotherapy, more specifically transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (a.k.a TENS) is a modality that we use to help modulate pain. We typically combine the use of TENS with either cryotherapy or heat before or after treatment to decrease the pain response. We do not use TENS on every client that walks in. Based on your symptom presentation, irritability and condition, we will determine whether the use of TENS will assist with your recovery.

Ultrasound therapy

Ultrasound therapy is used to speed up recovery by providing pain relief and decreasing swelling. Sound waves cause vibration of the cells of the tissue which help to improve nutrient flow and facilitate fluid movement.

Therapeutic Taping

We may use a variety of therapeutic taping techniques as a part of your treatment. The application of tape can be used for pain relief, to unload muscle and nerve tissue, and also to improve joint stability. Taping may be used in a variety of situations, in both the athletic and general population.

Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy essentially uses sound waves to stimulate parts of the body. The energy created by the pressure waves affects the tissues by increasing microcirculation and increasing metabolic activity. This can be used on a number of chronic conditions. It is indicated in the treatment and management of plantar fasciitis, heel spurs, patellar tendinopathy, calcific tendinitis, epicondylagia, trigger points, achilles tendinopathy and more.
